  Duh! lol, I totally thought I was on a different thread, talking about something else about the bread! Good grief. No wonder my answer sounded so irrelevant. Sorry about that.

  Sending garlic bread to your family might send a message IF they actually watch the broadcast or at least hear about it from someone...

  .... But what message would it send?

  You might know what message you want to send them with the packages of garlic bread, but will they know?

  It seems a bit abstract, and subject to (mis)interpretation.... I do like the idea, but the message may need to be explained or even spelled out to them. Like, they could think, "Yes, this garlic bread represents our imperfect self and our relationship with Jehovah and our various degrees of types of sin .... and obviously it is a very deep, spiritual subject... and what do YOU mean by sending us this bread?"

  Also, to what degree is the garlic sprinkled upon the bread? Is it layers of the stuff or only a slight sprinkle?

  What about the freshness of the bread, the purity...?

  And what of yeast? So many variables...

  Oh well, at least there are only 3 solutions -- being thrown into the garbage, being sliced up, or being eaten. In all 3 examples, the bread is damaged, assaulted or consumed, with no say or choice in the matter.

  I have never felt so sorry for bread before....

  a motion for summary judgement is denied in a case against the laurel congregation of jehovah's witnesses and some individuals over child abuse reporting issues.a lawyer for the congregation maintained that elders were exempted from reporting requirements under a state law because of clergy privilege and confidentiality.the case resulted from allegations that elders did not report an unlawful sexual relationship between a woman and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were members of the jehovah's witnesses congregation.. download the court opinion here.

  DataDog, I am glad you mentioned that about the victim in this case, a 14 year old boy. He too was disfellowshipped, along with his abuser. Probably for the "practice" of fornication, uncleanness, lewd or brazen conduct, etc.

  And you are so right, this despicable action reveals much about the character of the WT cult!!! Blame the victim, punish the victim, abolish him, banish him, obliterate him, don't give him any support, help or counselling.

  I think that society still has a double standard about young boys with older women -- a situation often seen as "less bad" or even desirable, than with an older male and young female, say a 30+ year old man with a 14 year old girl.... See? Does the latter sound worse somehow? To me, both situations are abominable. I have worked with children and youths, and though some of the kids can seem pretty "mature", they are not. They are still youths and children! With many insecurities and emotional needs.

  In disfelllowshipping the young boy, the WT and its clueless leaders and followers again demonstrate the degree of their "knowledge" and empathy for a sexually abused child or youth who has been taken advantage of sexually. Despicable.

  Ha! Pete Zahut, I thought the same thing -- I was shocked too at how casually he just threw that loaf of bread away. They talk about how we need to make sacrifices, how Jehovah is so efficient and hates waste.... they go on and on about the widow's mite and what a fine example she was (yet the point of Jesus' observation was something totally different! It was actually meant to highlight the greed of the Pharisee's and their unreasonable expectations and harsh demands!! Read the account and see for yourself!!!) -- they show how children should sacrifice their own ice cream money -- then, poof -- out goes some perfectly good bread that he deliberately mucked up for some totally lame demonstration....!!!!!

  And the other loaves probably got thrown out too afterward, after he grimed it all up in his hands... Who would want to eat it after that?

  Such casual wastefulness. But I guess people who also have no qualms about throwing *people* away have no qualms about other important assets and valuables either. "Give us this day our daily bread.... so we can use it in a stupid demo and then throw it out...."

  Be interesting how this appears to other people in developing countries. Good on ya, WT. Keep up the stupidity and cluelessness, it really is working. People are leaving, elders are stepping down, your flock is restless.... Is that what you wanted?

  omg. What.... What in the world.... What the heck....

  I thought this was SATIRE!! I mean, really?? How can they be so..... so.... so utterly..... words fail me ....

  We need to compile a "stupidest moments" thread of these broadcasting "highlights"....

  I would open it with Lett saying "Welcome!" (Very beginning of Jan. 2016 broadcast), to the money begging from May 2015, to Splane's generation chart, to "the little cart with a big heart" & accompanying insipidly stupid song.... to this... this abomination of bread illustration.... to.... whatever other ridiculous inanities these leaders spout.....

  Like a "Best of...!" Compilation. Oh yes, and end it with Splane (with weird & uncomfortable "helper" sitting beside him) crinkling up his face in a creepy & desperate attempt to show sincerity while he says, "We love you!"

  It would be very interesting to ask a JW this question. Who are these scriptures talking about? -- who puts these heavy loads upon their flock?

  And the j-dub would answer something like, "Why, the clergy of Christendom, of course." (an aside, have you ever noticed how often JWs and the publications preface or end a sentence with '... of course...'??)

  And then you would ask, "And what are these heavy loads and burdens they put upon their flock..?"

  Yes, I would love to ask those questions.....

  (... and I used to wonder too, about Jesus' words about his load being light, and that we would find refreshment! It sure didn't feel that way!!)
